Over the years, Greater Greenmount Community Association and other community groups have expressed our concerns to the Maryland Transit Administration about the noise and air pollution caused by diesel busses idling outside the Kirk Avenue Bus Depot and the impact that this has on the health and well-being of residents. Though the MTA has been responsive to our concerns they have been hampered by the constraints caused by the existing 65-year-old facility.

GGCA has supported efforts to secure funding to replace the current facility and is pleased that in 2012 the Maryland Transit Administration received the commitment of funds for construction of the first phase of a two-phased project. Phase one will be the construction of a new 100,000 square foot maintenance facility. When completed, all maintenance work will be performed indoors thereby eliminating the noise and fumes caused by busses idling outdoors.
