Description
Each month we have open community meetings to address topics of concern to neighborhood residents. In March we had Nicole Davis, a Partnership Specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau, discussing the importance of having everyone from our community counted in the upcoming 2010 Census. In April we covered  noise and pollution problems with the Kirk Ave Bus Depot. Ms. Zenia Wilson and Ms. Jessica James, students at Morgan State University who are producing a short film on environmental justice, spoke as did Ms. Morton, a long-time community resident.

Mayor's Spring Clean-up

For the Mayor's Spring Clean-up we were blessed with wonderful weather; sunny with a gentle breeze and a high of 76. We had a total of 21 neighborhood volunteers who started cleaning up from two locations - the corner of Boone St and North Ave and the corner of 23rd St and Guilford Ave. At 23rd and Guilford, in addition to our community volunteers, we also had support from the Charles Village Community Benefits District Management Authority’s Clean Team. The Clean Team, under the direction of CVCBDMA Executive Director David Hill, had negotiated with the City for a dumpster to be located at the corner. They also provided pick-up trucks and help with the overflow from the dumpster. We are also grateful to GGCA Vice President Sandra Coles who worked with the Sanitation Department as the Sanitation Department went the extra mile to come up with a solution to deal with the illegally dumped construction material from the neighborhood.

Our neighborhood is looking better now as a result of everyone working together for a successful clean-up effort. Be sure to check out the pictures from the clean-up in our photo gallery.

Our recent "Good Neighbor Walk" was held on Tuesday March 31, 2009 from 6:00 pm -7:30 pm. We started at the Auditorium entrance of Cecil Elementary school on Kirk Ave. and walked in the East Baltimore / Midway section of the neighborhood.  Officer Price from the Baltimore City Police Department joined us in our walk.
